Younger Years Part Two

A year went by and I asked her to be my girlfriend. She was super excited and screamed yes over and over while jumping into my arms. She gave me my first kiss, ever.

We even went down to the river late one night. We planned on losing our virginity to each other. However, a cop happened to drive by and caught us. Connie and I both took off running.

Connie made it home safely.

As for me, I had one very quiet drive home in the passenger seat of a cop car. I did get lucky, though, because my dad never found out.

After that whole ordeal, we decided to wait until we got married. I knew it was a long ways off, but I would never disrespect her wishes. Needless to say, I had fallen in love with her.

We dated all through high school and went to prom together. The night went perfect after the initial mishap.

Connie told me she would meet me at the school, so I rode with Layla and her date, Kevin. When I got there, I couldn’t find Connie. I waited outside for an hour before Layla came running out, telling me Connie was inside dancing with other guys. As soon as she saw me, she pushed the guy she was dancing with and ran to me. We spent the whole night in each other’s arms. I was crowned king, and some how Layla got prom queen. We shared an awkward dance, but after that the fun resumed.

I wanted so badly to go further with Connie, but I wasn’t going to break my promise to her. Layla on the other hand, didn’t have the same moral. I swore to her that I would never tell a soul what happened at prom.

The day before we graduated, I went over to see Connie. We were going out to dinner. I had bought her a ring and was planning on purposing that evening. I walked up to the door and rang the bell. Ashley opened the door to greet me while her dad slipped out and left for work.

“Connie is in her room getting dressed. You can come in and wait though.”

I hadn’t really ever spent any time with Ashley, waiting in the living room with her by myself made me feel extremely uncomfortable.

Ashley started talking to me. It was clear that she was flirting with me, but I tried not to acknowledge it.

I heard Connie’s footsteps as she headed down the hall into the living room. I turned to greet her when Ashley jumped into my arms and kissed me hard on my lips!

“Joshua!” I heard Connie scream.

Ashley flung back and looked at me with disgust. “How dare you kiss me! You are supposed to be loyal to my sister, and here you are throwing yourself at me!”

Connie took a handful of my hair and dragged me out onto the porch. She yelled at me, called me a liar and every bad name in the book. I tried explaining what happened to her but she would not hear it.

Connie didn’t believe me, she just glared at me with hate in her eyes.

“I was going to ask you to marry me tonight Connie. I love you, I would never cheat on you. I have never felt remotely attracted to your sister.” I pulled the ring out of my pocket and showed it to her. She looked puzzled, yet ashamed.

Then her expression turned to sadness.

“I just can’t trust you right now, Josh. I think it would be best if you just left now before you hurt me even more.”

I watched her walk back into the house, my heart was being carried away by the one person I loved most.
